PROBUS CLUB GENERAL MEETING MINUTES
on Thursday 21 February 2019
1       Chairman's Report – The chairman welcomed all members and Professor Christine Chapman who will give a presentation entitled “Nursing Career; These I met on my way”.  The Chairman announced that Glynn Whittle had sadly passed away and Mike Ingham spoke about his friend Glynn.  Members were asked to suggest possible new members who could be invited as guests at the meeting on 21 March when Anne Widdecombe will speak.
2       There were no matters arising from the last meeting.
3       The Secretary – Nothing to say
4       Treasurer's Report - John Brett report that Club’s finances were good order.
5       Social Secretary's – The chairman’s lunch will be on 9th May at the Victoria Hotel Sidmouth. On 27th June 2019 there is a visit to the Britannia Royal Naval College.
6       In-house Lunch Secretary's Report - Maurice Gwatkin said there were two places in the lunch that followed the meeting.
7       Speaker Secretary's Report –The speaker Prof Christine Chapman was introduced, she gave a talk entitled “Nursing Career; These I met on my way”. The presentation described the way nurses were trained in the 50s and 60s and the characters and her progress through her career.
        Tony Venning asked the members for ideas for the Christmas meeting.
8       Graeme Boden gave the vote of thanks.
9       Membership secretary’s report – there were 33 members who attended the meeting and 16 apologies and absentees.
10     Next Meeting is on 7th March 2019 when Dr David Halpin will give us a talk entitled “The Unnatural Death of Dr David Kelly.  Vote of thanks will be by Mike Bodsworth.
